1190- Tom Turner Salt Glazed Porcelain Cover-Jar, 1975
1190- Thrown porcelain Cover-Jar, 8 1/4 x 8 inches, single fired salt glazed and fumed for iridescence. This was slip glazed leather hard, allowed to dry, fired slowly up through bisque temperature and then on up to cone 10 and salted. It was fumed with Tin Chloride in the cooling cycle for the iridescence. It is dated 975 and was made at my Liberty, South Carolina studio while I was teaching at Clemson. The lid is ground into place for a 100% fit and the smoothest sound you’ve ever heard.
